Text Box: Alcohol

Alcohol is the product of fermented carbohydrates (sugars and starches). It is colorless and flammable, and acts as a depressant on the central nervous system. Alcohol can be both psychologically and physically addictive, with often painful withdrawal symptoms. While drinking, a person may become unable to make sound decisions which can result in dangerous behaviors such as driving while intoxicated or engaging in unprotected sex. Alcohol is also considered a “Gateway Drug,” meaning that frequent use of alcohol has been known to correlate with the abuse of other drugs.
